Job-Inhalt
A PhD project is available in the Nonlinear Optics group at the Institute of Applied Science – University of Bern.
Our research uses ultrashort intense lasers and terahertz pulses to probe and control the properties of complex solids. We focus on the nonequilibrium dynamics of quantum materials-including systems that exhibit macroscopic quantum phenomena (e.g., high-temperature superconductivity). By driving materials far from equilibrium and tracking their response on femtosecond timescales, we access structural, spin, and electronic dynamics and uncover the underlying out-of-equilibrium physics.
Aufgaben
• Conduct original research within the project.• Prepare, perform, and analyze laser-based experiments (and related simulations/data analysis).• Develop and optimize advanced ultrafast spectroscopic setups.• Interpret results in the context of condensed-matter physics and materials science.• Write reports and publications, present talks and posters at international conferences.• Collaborate with internal and external partners and contribute to day-to-day lab activities.
Anforderungen
• Master's degree in physics or a closely related field.• Background/interest in experimental condensed matter and/or optics.• Experience with nonlinear optics and/or optical spectroscopy is a plus (not essential).• Motivation to work with ultrafast lasers; readiness to participate in experiments at large-scale facilities.• Ability to work both independently and in a team
