Mbiomics GMBH
About the job
Founded in 2020, mbiomics GmbH aims to revolutionize the treatment of diseases through innovative microbiome-based therapeutics. Our holistic TechBio platform combines proprietary analytics and cutting-edge data science to push the boundaries of live bacterial product (LBP) development.
Mbiomics is looking for a (Senior) Research Scientist (m/w/d) who will lead the design and execution of in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo assays to uncover mechanisms driving the efficacy of microbiome interventions. This role is critical to bridging discovery and translational development by generating biological insights, validating hypotheses in preclinical models, and supporting biomarker strategies for clinical studies. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in microbiology, immunology, or a related field, bring deep expertise in host-microbial interaction assays and immunological readouts, and have proven leadership experience in guiding research teams and managing complex projects in an academic or industry setting.
Job description
- Propose biological hypotheses for mechanisms underlying the efficacy of microbiome interventions
- Design, develop and execute in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo assays to assess host-microbial interactions and immunological effects mediated by mbiomic’s life biotherapeutic products.
- Work closely with mbiomics’s data scientists to translate in silico hypotheses into screening assays and translationally de-risk screening results with large clinical datasets.
- Support translational development of host biomarkers for microbial interventions in clinical studies.
- Perform regular risk and feasibility assessments to inform modifications to workstreams and project timelines.
- Build and manage an effective team of Research Associates and Research Scientists to execute workstreams, including collaboratively defining clear work plans, coordinating resource availability for experiments, ensuring good documentation practices, and responding to feedback from the team.
- Work effectively across different multifunctional teams and projects in the design and development of microbial therapeutics.
- Effectively communicate development plans, experimental outcomes, and project updates to a variety of audiences including associates, scientists, leadership and external stakeholders like research and clinical collaborators
Requirements
Essential
- PhD in microbiology, immunology, cell biology or a related field
- Minimum 3 years post-PhD experience in one or more of: microbiome, drug development, screening assay development, biomarker discovery and development
- 2-5 years of experience in a microbiome therapeutics development environment in academia or industry
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a team or a project lead managing RA or RS level team members in an academic or industry setting.
- Expertise in designing and developing in vitro screening assays for host-microbial interaction.
- Expertise in microbiome in vivo assays including gnotobiotic mouse colonization and disease models.
- Strong organizational and communications skills as required for organizing and leading projects or multifunctional teams
- Ability to prioritize a variety of objectives and work collaboratively across the organization
- Desire to pursue professional development by giving and acting on feedback
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support others’ growth and build effective cross-team communication bridges.
- Deep expertise in flow cytometry and immunology, combined with strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and implementing practical solutions.
- High integrity and resilience: accountable, transparent, and able to adapt and stay focused under pressure while driving projects toward company goals.
