The Institute of Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology within the Faculty 8 History/Philosophy of the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a
Doctoral Research Associate /
Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in
(salary level E 13 TV-L)
commencing on 1 March 2026 to work with Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Timm (Chair of Cultural Anthropology). We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (50%) for 3 years. An extension is possible (according to legal constraints). Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.
Your tasks:
This position is tied to working towards a doctorate (50%): Dissertation research with a focus on historical anthropology/everyday history/popular dimensions in the history of knowledge and science since the 19th and with a focus on the 20th century (PhD program in cultural anthropology at the Department 08 History/Philosophy at the University of Münster)
Teaching in the BA program Cultural and Social Anthropology, including examinations, also in English
Advising students in the BA program in Cultural and Social Anthropology
Our expectations:
A graduate degree (Master's degree) in Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology/Empirical Cultural Studies or a related field such as History/Contemporary History (with proven expertise in Cultural and Social Anthropology and/or Historical Anthropology) is required.
Very good knowledge of empirical historical research (material, visual, and/or written sources) is required.
Very good knowledge of relevant theoretical and analytical approaches is required.
Very good English skills are required.
Interest in developing Historical Anthropology in teaching and research.
Experience in teaching and/or third mission communication is an advantage.
First experience with publishing own research would be a plus.
An international/transnational research perspective is an advantage.
