Job Summary
Working with the SVP of Advancement & Capital Strategy (SVP) and in coordination with members of the Advancement team, the Director of Donor Engagement will lead opportunities for the organization to expand support from individual donors and other strategic relationships as assigned. This includes developing a comprehensive individual giving program and taking actions to identify, cultivate and steward financial resources from past, current and prospective individual donors, clients and partner networks to support the organization, and position and promote NDC as a thought-leader with external audiences.
Key responsibilities
Direct and Manage Individual Fundraising – 75%
- Design and execute annual giving campaigns targeted to individuals, including past, current and prospective donors, clients, and other supporters to meet NDC’s revenue goals:
o Design and implement a multi-year strategy to grow individual giving revenue across annual, mid-level, and major gifts.
o Establish clear fundraising goals, performance metrics, and donor engagement plans in collaboration with leadership.
o Partner with senior leadership and board members to identify, cultivate, and solicit high-capacity prospects.
o Create and manage NDC’s Annual Campaign strategy, including direct mail, digital, and year-end giving campaigns. Maintain calendar for annual appeals and campaigns.
o Tailor strategic communications and appeals for segmented audiences.
o Work with the Development Associate to ensure all individual gifts are recorded in Salesforce and appropriately acknowledged.
- Manage strategies for donor acquisition, retention and pipeline development, including annual, mid-level, and potential major donors. Develop, grow and maintain a portfolio of donors giving consistently and position for growth over time.
- Engage donors through multiple channels: 1:1 meetings, strategic communications, and events.
- With the SVP, President/CEO and other members of the Executive Leadership team, develop and steward "high touch” relationships with individuals and other key supporters and institutional partners through events, meetings, site visits, and tours.
- Identify and implement technology tools and process efficiencies to support fundraising and engagement work.
- Provide reports and data on donor giving trends to inform donor cultivation strategy and results. Prepare reports and materials for leadership and development committees; train board members for peer-to-peer outreach.
Support Marketing and Strategic Fundraising Communications – 20%
- Develop organizational marketing/communications strategies that align with engaging external audiences and cultivating a culture of philanthropy and gratitude.
- Help design and generate videos, social posts, events to drive engagement and support NDC’s thought leadership.
- Serve on NDC’s Data Team to support organizational strategy and strategic communications.
Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
- Take on leadership of and/or leading opportunities/projects as needed and assigned in support of the Advancement Team.
- Manage potential consultants/contract staff to support fundraising and events as needed.
- Serve on various staff committees and project teams as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience securing funding from individual and or institutional sources such as foundations, corporations, and government entities.
- Proven track record in successfully building and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and donors.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Skills:
- Proven ability in fundraising, marketing/communications, and budget management.
- Skilled in building and nurturing long-term partnerships.
- Persuasive and strategic communicator, with excellent interpersonal and written communications skills.
- Proficiency in technology, project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to represent the organization confidently at public events and in coalition and community settings.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic decision-making skills. Flexible and adaptable to change.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in nonprofit management, human services, or community development.
- Familiarity with the local philanthropic community and networks.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce and or other donor management software.
