(Chair of Botany III)
as soon as possible on a permanent civil service basis.
In line with the Faculty of Biology's focus concept and the plans for the content-related and structural realignment of plant science research at the Julius von Sachs Institute for Biosciences (JvSI), the W3 professorship is to be filled by an excellent researcher working in the field of " Adaptation and evolution of plants in a changing environment .”
The applicant should represent the field of plant genetics in the context of the evolution, development, and/or adaptation of plants in a changing environment. Based on an experimental approach combined with modern bioinformatic methods, the candidate should work on causal analysis at the molecular level.
Applicants are expected to be willing to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation, particularly within the plant sciences and the Biocenter, and to actively participate in one or more of the faculty's other focus areas (insect research, infection biology, theoretical biology) and in the university’s research focus "Global Change”. Applicants are expected to have experience in acquiring third-party funding, as well as an excellent publication record and international visibility/reputation.
Together with the Chair of Botany I (Molecular Plant Physiology), the Chair of Botany III is responsible for teaching in the bachelor's and teacher training programs in biology in the areas of plant physiology, plant developmental biology, the plant kingdom, and plant cell biology, as well as the basic lecture in biochemistry. Furthermore, subject-specific key qualifications are to be offered to bachelor's students. A willingness to contribute to the further development of teaching is expected. The Chairs of Botany I and III are also involved in the M.Sc. program in Life Sciences with a focus on molecular plant physiology, biochemistry, and structural biology, as well as molecular membrane biology, the international Master FOKUS Life Sciences program, the international BIO-EU Master Biology program, and the ERASMUS program.
The requirements for appointment are a relevant university degree, pedagogical aptitude, a particular aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, and additional scientific achievements, as specified in Art. 57 (1) sentences 3 and 4 BayHIG. The additional scientific achievements should have been made in the field of plant genetics. According to Art. 60 (3) BayHIG, appointment as a civil servant can only be made until the age of 52. Exceptions are possible in urgent cases. The University of Würzburg attaches great importance to providing intensive support to students and doctoral candidates and expects its teaching staff to demonstrate a corresponding level of commitment. The University of Würzburg is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages suitably qualified female scientists to apply. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference if their qualifications are otherwise essentially equal.
