Hello, my name is Kuno Aescht, and I'm a Project Manager at AMSYS. At AMSYS, we lead the way in obsolescence management, empowering your success with cutting-edge solutions. We offer digitized and automated tools designed to streamline business processes and optimize product life cycle management. Through our innovative application, the Life Cycle Management Client or LCM Client, which can be tailored to the specific needs of various industries, including the railway sector, we enhance efficiency and transparency. Our customizable tool reduces manual tasks and boosts overall business performance.
Today, I’m excited to present the optimal path for an organization to adopt a digitized and automated workflow through our Obsolescence Management Module (OM Module). Organizations handle obsolescence management in various ways, each following their own process when impacted by obsolescence. Our OM Module offers a streamlined, digitized solution to this challenge.
What is the Obsolescence Management (OM) Module?
The OM Module, alongside the Risk Management Module (RM Module), is one of two LCM Client modules, representing the reactive part of the process. It digitizes and automates case management, handling manual tasks such as:
- Checking your email each morning for Product Discontinuance Notices (PDNs) or Product Change Notices (PCNs).
- Gathering additional information about specific items.
- Searching ERP/PLM systems to identify where these items are used in your Bill of Materials (BOMs) and determining how many are affected.
With the OM Module, these steps are automated, allowing you to see which systems are impacted, the total usage, and the number of affected items in the "where used" section.
Conventional Workflow Example:
Let’s imagine you’re a customer who already has the OM Module, and you receive a PCN/PDN. The OM Module offers four ways to handle these notifications:
- PCNInbox – A dedicated, free-to-use tool for customers, managing PCNs.
- Email from the Manufacturer/Supplier – Start the workflow immediately by creating a case in the OM Module.
- Risk Management Module – A proactive approach that allows you to monitor specific items in registered BOMs and generate a case with just a few clicks.
- Search from Component Database – Quickly generate a case in the OM Module.
Customization of the Obsolescence Management (OM) Module:
Moving beyond the generic workflow, the OM Module can be tailored to your specific needs. You can customize and map the OM Module to fit your existing processes by:
- Customizing fields: Make optional fields mandatory or vice versa, rename, or remove fields that are not relevant to your process.
- Assigning responsible people for components.
- Adding special features for our railway customers, such as DIN Codes and DIN Texts.
- Process Level Automation: Customize the steps required to move through your workflow, whether you have 3, 5, or 7 process steps.
- Customizing notifications for different actions.
Benefits of the OM Module:
- Tailored Process Digitalization: Customization from field renaming to process level automation, with special features like DIN Codes for railway customers.
- User Management: Assign different roles with varying access rights. For example, the Guest role allows third parties embedded in your process to access the OM Module with limited rights.
- History Function with Complete Transparency: Regardless of your role, all activities at the case level are tracked, ensuring full transparency.
- Improved Daily Business Performance: The OM Module automates, digitizes, and centralizes your tasks, allowing you to focus on critical aspects like due dates and resource coordination.
