Each year, our idealo survival insurance supports a climate protection project that offsets 50% of our employees' emissions. For 2023, we've partnered with CarboCert to promote regenerative agriculture, leading to an offset of over 6,000 tons of CO2e.
To gain a deeper understanding of the project, our co-founder and member of the advisory board Albrecht and some members of our idealo team, alongside South Pole, a carbon finance consultancy, visited one of the farms involved in this project who implemented regenerative agriculture methods.
During our visit, we learned about sustainable farming practices and the vital role of humus in climate change mitigation. Soil can act as carbon sinks through the formation of humus. This fertile top layer of soil contains carbon that has previously been CO2, thus contributing to carbon sequestration. 🌟
Globally, soils are in poor condition, resulting in humus loss, reduced fertility and CO2 release. By supporting sustainable agriculture, we can promote humus accumulation and CO2 sequestration, providing a pathway to less carbon emissions and a healthier environment. 🌱
