Cathodic protection is a way of protecting steel pipelines from corrosion. Steel pipelines are normally equipped with an isolating coating protecting the pipeline from corrosion.
Corrosion is an electrochemical process:
➡️ By lowering the potential (electric charge) of the pipeline, corrosion can be moved to another piece of metal, which corrodes instead of the pipeline.
➡️ By measuring the potentials at existing measuring points, we can verify that the system is working correctly.
