The USDA has anounced measures to combat the rapidly spreading PEDv disease. Funds have been raised to be used in research, development and control activities. PEDv, a disease bearing no risk to human food or safety, has so far killed more than 7 million pigs since the beginning of the year.
There is no firm data on how many hogs have been infected. Therefore the need for testing antibodies in serum is growing.

According to a press release of SAGARPA earlier this year, visitors from China AQSIQ have evaluated the system of approved slaughter establishments (TIF) in Mexico. So far two plants in Mexico have been accredited to export beef to China. Additionally, a large number of beef establishments in Mexico are in the process of getting export approval. As a result of this development the restrictions on exports of bovine blood products from Mexico to China can be completely lifted.

A new case of "atypical" BSE has been detectet in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. A cow aged more than 10 years has shown symptoms similar to the case recorded in 2012. On April 22. the New Zealand Ministry or Primary Industries (MPI) announced that it has suspended until further notice issuing certifications for export of bovine blood products to China. On April 16. Chinese AQSIQ stopped importation of New Zealand bovine blood products into China due to positive PCR test result for bovine virus diarrhoea (BVD) in a batch of bovine serum .
