Driven by the "future hospital act", 2021 is the year of #digitalisation for #hospitals in Germany. Nevertheless, many hospitals are doing it wrong: they are expanding their inflexible IT system(s) instead of redefining the ideal treatment pathway.
M. Gösele, CEO of the Wertach clinics, is more the exception than the rule, when he decided that the hospital information system needs to be changed. "The system that offers the greatest user-friendliness for employees and the fewest interface problems is the most interesting for us," says Gösele. (Handelsblatt)
Indeed, interfaces will enable to merge stationary and ambulatory care, enabling a seamless experience for the patients. As a result, the role of the hospital will evolve, and potentially diminish:

Former Harvard professor Clayton Christensen would not disagree with E. Emanuel, as he always claimed that "the hospital business model is broken".
The booming #digitalhealth market now enables us to reinvent new delivery care models, where the hospital is not at the center anymore... for the better.
