Dr. Alexander Kleiner

I am leading a team of over 100 scientists active in several projects centered around Robotics, IoT, and Autonomous Driving (AD). Given my academic background in AI Robotics, leadership, and hands-on experience from companies in California, I see my personal mission in driving and supporting the process of digitalization of Bosch and its products. I am involved in strategical decisions making regarding robotics and AD including direct communication and pitching to the upper management.

Development of core AI technologies based on machine learning and probabilistic reasoning for supporting health diagnosis, skill and talent profiling. Conceptual design and management of FaceMap’s AI department involving the budgeting and architecture of systems for cloud-based deep learning and reasoning.

My responsibilities included: Leadership and supervision of several software engineers and scientists. Architect of iRobot’s next generation navigation and user interaction software, which is the basis for current and future robot platforms such as Roomba. Development of Cloud-based Deep Learning techniques applied to millions of customer maps. Conceptional design and development of advanced planning and cleaning behaviors. US patents on magnetic field localization and CleanMap related technologies.

Head of research group on collaborative robotics working on topics such as au- tonomous robot exploration, guaranteed search, simultaneous localization and map- ping (SLAM), distributed task allocation, and multi-robot motion planning.

During this project at Carnegie Mellon I developed together with colleagues algorithms and a system for searching moving targets within outdoor environments.

Head of the Robotics Lab, leading several student teams during research projects and robot competitions.
