Dr. Anne Strader

My research focuses on physics-based earthquake forecast development and developing forecast evaluation methods using dynamic risk quantification. Recently, I have begun to investigate the role of physics-based seismicity models in improving Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA).

I investigated the role of quasi-static Coulomb stress evolution in earthquake triggering within southern California. The ultimate goal of this research was to develop a prospective, short-term physics-based earthquake forecast.

I instructed the Department of Earth, Planetary and Space Science (EPSS) Sci 8: Earthquakes course during the 2014 Summer Session C.

Working with Prof. David D. Jackson, I conducted research on incorporating static inter- and co-seismic stress transfer into prospectively testable earthquake forecasts.

I instructed laboratory assignments for the Department of Earth, Planetary and Space Science (EPSS) Earthquakes course (EPSS Sci 8), led exam review sessions, and graded assignments.

I gained experience with multiple geophysical survey methods, including magnetotellurics, TEM, GPR, seismic refraction/reflection, magnetics, and gravity. By conducting a long-period magnetotelluric survey, I constrained the depth of a mid-crustal conductor in the Rio Grande Rift.

Working with Dr. Gabi Laske at the University of California, San Diego, I participated in the Hawaiian PLUME (Plume-Lithosphere Undersea Mantle Experiment), analyzing teleseismic earthquake travel times using Rayleigh wave tomography to detect low-velocity zones potentially indicative of mantle plume activity.
