Antonio Claudio Padilha

As an academic researcher I study oxide materials using simulations on massively parallel supercomputers. My current project aims to describe the working principles of the memristor device.

I conducted theoretical and computational research on nanosciences and material sciences. The main goal of my research was to understand the working principles of memristors using simulations and theoretical Physics. I also taught undergraduate students once, the subject was theoretical and experimental thermodynamics.

As part of my PhD, I spent 4 months working on theoretical and computational Physics in Japan. We studied the memristor device and wrote a fortran90 code that could simulate one of its most important experimental results: its i x V curve.

During my Masters' course I first came into contact with computational Physics while using simulations to study carbon nanotubes. I also taught several times undergraduate students (Solid State Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Basic Physics courses) and graduate students (Quantum Mechanics)

I taught Maths on FIA's social project. Students have to go through admission tests in order to study at the top universities in Brazil, and the project was to help low-income students to succeed in this challenge.

I worked as a helpdesk consultant for LUZ, helping customers using the risk analysis software we sold, either by visiting the clients or remotely.

I studied the memristor using computational Physics. In order to do so, I used parallel supercomputers capable of simulating parts of the device. My Thesis was awarded the Capes' (largest funding agency in Brazil) thesis prize in 2016.

I started working with computational Physics during my Maters course, where I used simulations to study carbon nanotubes and their interactions with the pentacene molecule.

My specialisation was basic research in Physics, with emphasis on theoretical and mathematical methods in Physics.
