Bert Wagenaar aids the Cradle-to-Cradle strategy of Tarkett-Desso and supports carpet production in the framework of a circular economy. The research is characterized by: innovation, operational excellence, market expansion and communication. Innovation embodies three pillars: creativity, functionality and cradle-to-cradle. Output consists of novel products which are responsibly produced.

Peer reviewer of a back-log of 200 papers which were submitted to the Journal of Biomass and BioEnergy.

Pyrolysis technology expert Responsible for scaling-up the pyrolysis technology from lab-scale (1 kg/h) to demonstration scale (250 kg/h). Enabling automated 24/7 industrial production of bio-oil. Extended experience on atmospheric and supercritical biomass gasification and combustion. Responsible for grant acquisition: European Commission; Dutch Senter/NOVEM. Project coordinator of two European research consortia. Project participant in 5 European research projects.

Areas studied: - Flow of solids in the rotating cone reactor. - Fluor-optical system design for in-flight particle temperature measurement. - High temperature sawdust decomposition kinetics into gas, oil and char. - Sawdust conversion in the rotating cone reactor at 500 degrees Celsius into a liquid fuel with 72% mass efficiency. PhD thesis available.

Unilever Research Price 1988 - Awarded for the master thesis: "Development of a numerical model to describe the heat transfer in a gas-fluidized bed".
