Cheuk Yan Man

Research project for MRes programme on retinal degeneration. Investigating the participation of p114RhoGEF mutations on specific cells involved in retinal degeneration using patient derived-iPSCs that will be differentiated into RPE cells. Gained experience in stem cell culture, qPCR, western blotting, immunofluorescence imaging, mouse retina isolation, flat mounting, and cryosectioning.

Summer internship as a Research Assistant at Prof Ngo Chi Ki Jacky's laboratory in CUHK's School of Life Sciences. Took responsibility in laboratory work of a project related to protein kinases in various cancer cells. Gained experience in working with cell culture, microbes and protein analysis.

Served as an assistant at the laboratory workplace. Observed laboratory work on stem cells and the production line in healthcare industry.

Placement at the laboratory of Genesis Biosciences in Cardiff. Gained experience in laboratory work especially with microbes. Obtained an insight into environmentally responsible chemical technologies. Assisted in quality control of the company's products.

Joined the Goodwill Ambassador Programme and worked in a local hospital in Malaysia. Gained experience in laboratory work and an insight into the range of facilities of the hospital such as the blood bank. Volunteered in a local orphanage and successfully led the team to organise games and teaching materials for the children.

Placement in the HPV Research Laboratory. Gained experience in laboratory skills and an insight into research work by postgraduate students.
