One of the original developers of WebLogic Server, which has a one third share of the $2.5B/year application server market. Designed and implemented many of the product’s clustering, caching, data management, and connection management features. Involved in 8 major releases of the product. Developed technical and business strategy for the product. Analyzed the requirements of BEA’s layered products and supported them in the base platform. Met with end-users and ISVs to gather requirements.

One of the original developers of MediaNet, a network file system that provides real-time guarantees for editing digital audio/video and high-speed transfers for desktop publishing. Thousands of MediaNet boards have been installed in high-end facilities for audio post-production, CD and DVD mastering, and pre-press layout. Designed and implemented embedded real-time code in the MediaNet board that manages access to the FDDI network, SCSI disks, and the host computer.

Ran an extensive research program in distributed systems, programming languages, and software engineering. Obtained several million dollars in grants from NSF and ARPA. Designed and taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses. Committee chairman for five doctoral dissertations in computer science and secondary member for over twenty other doctoral dissertations. Engaged in cooperative research at Information Sciences Institute in Los Angeles, the Technical University of Berlin.
