Team Leader for six engineers developing a highly complex component of the air-conditioning system for all global small cars of Ford. Cost control and timing tracking. Supplier coordination to ensure the final design is produced at the right quality at full production rate for product launch. This includes coordinating regional development teams that take direction from the European lead.

Ensuring all designs comply with internal and regulatory standards and requirements. To make sure the physical parts are at the right pedigree for all 4 pre-production, prototype build phases.Reporting to Commodity-, Integration- and Program leaders on 5 separate new model programs. This includes communication and negotiation with Purchasing and Finance teams for 6 different global markets including post-launch cost reduction studies and implementation of issue solving solutions

• Part of a team of specialists working to develop best possible standards to improve quality and enhance perceived quality of Ford vehicles. • Utilising CAD and visualisation tools, including Teamcentre, Catia V5 and Vismockup, to find and resolve design and engineering execution issues through contact with several internal departments and also suppliers.

• Mechanical Design of man-powered well pumps according to national regulatory and safety standards.

• Preparing and presenting lectures and workshops for Machine Design and Theory of Machines to Mechanical and Industrial Engineering students Setting and marking of tests and exams for these subjects.

Sensory engineering research focussing on Haptics (sense of touch) to improve Demand Setting for materials used in Colour and Trim of vehicles to improve Perceived Quality.

• Mechanical Design of specialised trailers according to national regulatory and safety standards. Setting of exams for students studying statutory and regulatory standards.

Assistance on projects for the establishment of the South African National Tooling Initiative, including tool room assessments. Automotive component localisation and homologation, Special and Commercial vehicle Design Engineering and Testing and Mobile infrastructure development. Writing, implementation and management of ISO Quality Management procedures and work instructions for the Design and Engineering department.
