Supporting a research study focusing on how youth, and Christian youth in particular, are impacted by violence surrounding Jihadist movements operating in Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Cameroon. The aim is to explore how violence affects young people’s education and work and how they perceive the long-term effects of current opportunities later in life. The study seeks to ascertain whether there are differences among youth linked with religion, ethnicity, gender and location using qualitative research methods.

Due to my interpersonal and communication skills, I was trusted to undertake outreach activities. As a result of my work, which I undertook autonomously and in teams, Ashinaga Sénégal was able to establish itself as a new Ashinaga branch with strong links to government entities and other actors. Across Francophone Africa, this enabled the expansion of the international flagship programme growing from around 6 countries in 2016 to 19 nations in 2020. Apart from networking, I also worked on (social) media.

The Senegal office was in the process of being established when I started. Therefore, all administrative structures and scholarship programmes had to be developed from the ground up. The workload was intense and many complex situations had to be handled in a fast-paced environment while keeping in mind the bigger picture. I supported the setup of the organisation with quickly increasing responsibilities as I proactively took on initiatives to improve our work and proved to be reliable and well-organised.

All modules but the thesis module were attended. However, I did not graduate from this programme, yet. It is paused.
