Dr. Jana Reifegerste

As a volunteer at the Oxam Shop in Potsdam, I am responsible for the reception, organization, and pricing of donated goods (especially toys and games) to our shop as well as manning the cash register.

Planning, programming, conducting, analyzing and presenting of behavioral experiments.

I worked on the acquisition of semantics in infants and young children, specifically the understanding of scalar implicatures (the use of 'some', 'many', 'all', 'none'', etc.). My tasks included the recruitment of participants (day cares in the greater Montreal area) and conducting language experiments (grammatical judgment) with 3- and 4-year-olds.

I worked at the Centre for Identity and Social Relations on the question of which ethnic and social group different ethnic groups in Canada (especially members of First Nation tribes, i.e. native Canadians) feel they belong to. To this end, I constructed, programmed and implemented a questionnaire on social identity and constructed the website of the centre. Further, I designed the website for the Lydon lab (http://www.psych.mcgill.ca/perpg/fac/lydon/).

Working int the Department of Diagnostics, and Personality and Differential Psychology, specifically on the topic of personality measurement, interpersonal attraction, personality judgment, I invited people to and conducted experiments on first impression formation. Further, I maintained the literature database of the scientific staff.

In the Faculty for Industrial Psychology, I helped a visually impaired PhD candidate with statistical analyses and data and literature management on the topic of psychological well-being in opposite gender stereotyped jobs (i.e. male nurses). Further, I taught a seminar on interpersonal communication for non-psychologists and corrected exams and homework.

As a member of the Department for Developmental and Comparative Psychology, I worked on a number of topics, e.g., False Belief in non-human primates, Normativity and Pretend Play in toddlers, the acquisition of passive voice and pre-verbal communication / pointing in infants. My tasks ranged from participant recruitment, conducting experiments with infants and children, over data coding and data management to statistical analyses data presentation.
