Laura Hellebrandt

TNO is the ' Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research'. As a junior research scientist in structural reliability I was a part of the "TNO Talent Development Programme". I worked mainly in the domain of existing bridges and was involved on traffic loading projects based on WIM data, as well as research on reducing uncertainty in quantifying reliability of aging structures.

I carried out my MSc thesis research "Structural Reliability of Existing City Bridges: Analysis with Monte Carlo simulation including a load model based on weigh-in-motion measurements". The Municipality of Rotterdam maintains a large number of short-span traffic bridges. I investigated the applicability of Monte Carlo structural reliability and developed a traffic load model for determining life-time maxima traffic load effect distribution on short-span bridges in the city.
