  • 5 years and 9 months, Jan 2011 - Sep 2016

    Research Associate

Institute of molecular life science, University of Zurich

I am integrating my biophysical skills to the molecular biology expertise of the group where I am working in, to characterize glutamate transporters at the first retinal synapse. To do so I have assembled two electrophysiology set-ups, one for oocyte recordings and one for patch clamp recordings. I have given master students lessons about electrophysiology, sleep, ribbon synapses and brain machine interfaces. I regularly communicate my results at internal and external meetings.

  • 3 years and 10 months, Jan 2007 - Oct 2010

    Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

Centre de Recherche INSTITUT DE LA VISION Paris, France.

I worked on animal models of retinitis pigmentosa, a pathology where the death of retinal photoreceptors induces blindness. I investigated the properties of the surviving cells, both with biophysical and immunohistochemical techniques and I monitored the protective effects of taurine, a not essential aminoacid, on the retina of the same animal models. I cooperated with physicians and engineers to the development of a retinal prosthesis.

  • 4 years and 4 months, Aug 2002 - Nov 2006

    Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Dep. of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, University of Nebraska Medical Center

In this position I mastered the patch clamp technique to investigate the complex mechanisms that regulate synaptic transmission; I performed double patch clamp recordings and capacitance measurements. In this challenging and very stimulating environment, I learned how to be well organized, productive and cooperative.
