Mark leads Atkins' Asset Management Transformation Team to fulfil the needs of a growing client base keen to implement ISO55001, BIM and Digital Engineering as part of a Digital Enterprise Asset Management System (dEAMS), enhancing Atkins' Management Consultancy service to clients. Asset Management Transformation: Defining and delivering the transformation required for clients to optimise spend on major asset bases and improve their value for the organisation or society throughout their life cycle.

Mark worked with London Underground Ltd on the SSR Upgrade program (Metropolitan, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines) accountable for management of RAM engineering for Fleets, Depots and Infrastructure within LU’s works capital investment programmes, and other projects, with the prime aim of technically enabling the delivery of the Supply Chain contracts. Mark provided RAM engineering expertise to the programmes and delivered high level and project level RAM system documentation.

A home based autonomous role, tasked with improving product Reliability by 25% pa. Created & implemented a 5yr Reliability Improvement Roadmap for products & production lines - reduced warranty costs by ~70% in 3.5yrs! Recruited, mentored and managed Reliability Engineers in all divisions. Trained cross functional teams at 5 Business Units in Problem Solving. Wrote & delivered FTA, System, Design and Process FMEA training, facilitating FMEAs to improve products, including suppliers in the analysis.

Fleet Asset manager of the Bakerloo, Central, Victoria and Waterloo & City London Underground Lines, with a budget of £85M p.a. Examined line performance, proposing new projects to improve performance of the fleets to the Metronet board in liaison with LUL. Analysed Whole Life Costs introducing a Whole Life Cost Model to determine when major investments - fleet replacement, refurbishment - should take place. Introduced RCM to the Vic Line Fleet achieving a cost neutral 125% performance improvement.

A specialist role as an Internal Consultant to Project Teams. Key contributor in the initial Risk Analysis, concept design, System FMEA, Design FMEA, production design and FMEA stages (having trained BOC Edwards team members in the UK and USA in these processes). Specialised in the design of high stress cycles and facilities for accelerated life testing of products. Managed various teams of technicians and engineers to build, test, develop and pass-off/ validate new products.

Was responsible for Project Management of engine build and test programs. Designed engine specific non-standard high stress test cycles and test rigs processing and interpreting the data gathered, reporting to the client via technical reports and liaison meetings. Was appointed to a project team to lead the FMEA process which, in turn, led engine design and was a key client deliverable.

Contributed to a wide variety of design projects from 50cc two stroke motorcycle engines, through 125cc four stroke motorcycle engines to single cylinder research engines (250-350cc per cylinder, gasoline and diesel), 1.0ltr IL3 (gas), 1.0 to 2.4ltr IL4's, 2.0ltr to 4.0ltr V6's (both gasoline and diesel), 12ltr IL6, 35ltr V12, 3.5MW IL4 engines (all diesel and/or gas). Became well versed in the use of Risk Analysis, FMEA and other 6 Sigma techniques during this time via specialist and on-the-job training

Based at The Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR), Dounreay, Caithness, Scotland, investigated failures on power station circuits e.g. sodium (reactor), steam (turbines), argon (control). Wrote maintenance schedules ready for the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII). Set up Bonded Stores with an out-of-hours material release system.

2:1 (73%) - LSBU set at 75% for a 1st. Sandwich degree - 1988-89 in industry. HND in Mech Eng - Merits & Distinctions – won an award in 1987. 1983 enrolled on Elec Eng HND - too boring to make a career of, transferred to Mech Eng in 1984. I spent 1985-86 working to pay for my degree.
