Matt Jones

I was elected as SIFE Lancaster President, and was part of the presentation team representing the University at the SIFE UK National Competition in Canary Wharf in London, where we presented to a judging panel of business professionals and executives. My role this year involves managing the projects and management team, designing new projects and generating the project outlines, planning and organising fundraising events, and ensuring the SIFE culture remains strong in the team through leadership and drive.

I am employed as a sales floor assistant, where I regularly communicate with and aid customers with their queries or problems while delivering a high-standard service. Key responsibilities include maintaining stock levels on shelves and promotional displays, and using the EPOS (electronic point of sale) system to maintain warehouse stock, reorder product lines, process waste and reduced items, and complete price changes. I also have a second department, where I pick products ordered online by customers.

I joined SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) in November 2009 and started the project Capture, which acted as a consultancy for artists and creative students who needed business knowledge and advice to turn their hobby or talent into a sustainable business. My responsibilities as project leader until March 2010 included organising and motivating the project team, offering business advice and ideas to the students, working towards regular targets, and reporting progress at weekly meetings.
