Matthew Fullerton

My involvement with Hawa Dawa began with meeting Karim Tarraf and talking about heatmaps for air quality. For many years I led the development of our software platform which has gradually evolved into the role of CTO.

Worked on offline, backend, frontend and mobile software projects for non-profit and for-profit organisations, often with a data-harmonisation/open data/data-heavy website angle.

Developed and co-founded SMARTLANE, an EXIST-funded startup from an idea to a successful company.

Under the supervision of Prof. Fritz Busch, I led TUM's work on the EU research project "SOCIONICAL" (www.socionical.eu) until March 2013; this included developing software and simulations for the analysis of mobile technology in traffic as well as project management, representation at meetings and talks in the US and EU and publication of results. I then worked on simulations examining mobile systems for emissions reduction (EU EcoMove project).

Three research visits while studying at the University of York, UK to work on MPEG decoding, contrast sensitivity and headlight glare projects, all with a focus on people with visual impairments.

Research for my thesis, entitled “Development of a System to Study Glare Sensitivity in a Driving Simulator”, was carried out at the research lab of Dr Eli Peli at the Schepens Eye Research Institute.

My thesis, entitled "StroMoHab - Environment and Task Creation", was part of a technology transfer effort, StroMoHab, of Dr Adar Pelah. My Year in Industry was carried out at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, MA.
