I'm a member of I​la Fiete`s​ group at the MIT Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. My current focus lies on localization and planning in the hippocampal formation and how this can inform us about general cognitive computations and intelligence.

Numenta is a machine intelligence company with a focus on cortical theory. My focus were spatial representations in the brain, and their role in more general cognitive computations and intelligence.

Numenta’s mission is to be a leader in the new era of machine intelligence. The research focus during my visit was two-fold: 1. Identifying objectives of Numenta’s binary sparse coding algorithm (including an appropriate reconstruction error in the binary setting, establishing a relation to entropy, and introducing a novel approach to local inhibition) 2. Defining a formal framework for Numenta’s sequence memory from the perspective of the incremental parsing algorithm after Lempel and Ziv.

Three-month, free, New York-based, educational retreat for intellectually curious people who want to get better at programming. Relevant projects: (1) Monadic parser combinator in JavaScript inspired by Haskell (2) Lisp interpreter in JavaScript (3) JavaScript implementation of Numenta’s Cortical Learning algorithm
