•Kicked-off, designed and established 3 major lines of research. •Established and optimized complex experimental cell-, tissue- and animal-based models (in vitro endothelial blood-brain barrier, human liver slices, zebrafish, cerebral organoids) •Set up protocols for virus production in BSL-3 facilities. •Obtained 3 grants and published 3 articles. •Managed 3 Master students, 1 PhD student and 1 Research Engineer by setting goals and providing training, coaching, feedback and support.

• Planned, prepared and gave lectures on General and Medical Microbiology. • Established collaborations with companies, hospitals and laboratories for students to make trainings. • Designed and applied activities to increase interest and participation of university students in science classes, like an ¨Agar Art¨ and a ¨Scientific Picture¨ contest. • Organized seminars for external speakers working in industry to connect with students.

• Characterized two antiviral compounds against dengue virus that specifically interfere with entry to the cell. • Established a microscopy assay to define the mechanism of action of antiviral drugs.

• Characterized the mode of action of silver nanoparticles against HIV-1 in human cells • Studied the mode of action of silver nanoparticles against multi-drug resistant bacteria
