Wenn die Kohlenstoffquelle erneuerbar ist, z.B. aus einer Biomassevergasung, so kann das Methan klimaneutral als "Drop-In" Kraftstoff in die vorhandene Speicher- und Verteilstruktur des Erdgasnetzes eingespeist werden und als Ersatz zum klassischen Erdgas dienen.
