Dr. Ronaldo Kalunga

Developing advanced acoustic and imaging systems for medical applications. Experience in photoacoustics, ultrasound, and OCT, with a strong focus on system integration, real-time algorithms, and experimental validation. Roles span systems engineering, development, and project management.

My research focused on developing a platform for proton range verification in a small animal irradiator, leveraging ionoacoustic signals. My work is primarily experimental, designing and implementing acoustic/ultrasound source localisation algorithms using techniques such as multilateration and triangulation.

Erasmus Exchange Programme. During my time at the University of Zaragoza, I concentrated primarily on Biomedical Signal Processing, with a focus on ECG, EEG, and EMG, as well as Robotics. I also pursued interests in biostatistics, image processing, biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

Thesis: A Comparative Analysis of Ultrasound Imaging Performance Between PZT and CMUT Probes. My thesis primarily focused on assessing image quality across both technologies. Additionally, I contributed to the characterisation of acoustic materials and the development of beamforming algorithms.

Thesis Title: Study of Non-Invasive Technologies for Heart Valve Replacement. I earned my bachelor's degree in electronic engineering, where the first two years were dedicated to foundational engineering principles, particularly in electrical and electronic engineering. In my final year, I explored topics in biomedical engineering and other related fields.
