Dr. Sabine Blankenship

- Advise the German Government on public policies that boost innovation and cutting-edge research. Promote knowledge transfer and foster scientific exchange and partnership between Germany and the US. - Organize and manage the agenda for German delegation visits. - Conduct research and create reports on climate and energy, technology, biotechnology, and education - Moderate and participate in panel discussions at conferences and universities. Help represent Germany at conferences, receptions, and seminars.

- Shaped the Science Liaison Officer role; fostered and deepened German American relations in the science, technology, and education spheres. - Developed relationships between German and US private and public organizations including federal and state government agencies, universities, think tanks, technology companies, and research institutes. - Created briefings, meeting agendas, government reports, and related content; conducted research, interviewed experts, and analyzed data.

- Trained in synaptic physiology, with a focus on the structure and function of neurotransmitter receptors. - Authored 1 invited perspective, co-first authored 1 research article, and co-authored 3 additional research articles, all of which appeared in top peer-reviewed scientific journals. - First to characterize the physiological properties of newly discovered synaptic proteins involved in the regulation of ionotropic glutamate receptors.

- Conducted scientific studies, published results, taught others, and supervised graduate students in their thesis work. - Designed a research project and was awarded a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service for a postdoctoral research appointment with Dr. Roger A. Nicoll at UC San Francisco.

- Thesis: “Studies on the functional significance of the glutamate receptors of the delta subfamily”. - Authored 2 original research publications, 1 magazine article, and 2 invited reviews; co-authored 1 additional research article. - Co-instructed 200 undergraduate biochemistry students in an experimental course titled Isolation and electrophoretic analysis of RNA. - Awarded a highly competitive graduate student fellowship from the International Graduate School of Neuroscience, 2003-2006.
