Shaun Carland

I am responsible for full stack development on an enterprise suite of applications designed to increase productivity for salespeople. I work with designers and product managers to plan, design, and implement features on our products. I participate in code reviews with my team, help maintain near full test coverage of our software, and fix bugs whenever they arise. I provide technical support for customer experience specialists and I am available for on call support for server emergencies.

I was responsible for full stack development on FMS Engine, a financial management SaaS web application geared towards managing budgets, invoices, and timesheets for nonprofit organizations in the human services sector. I worked directly with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to develop client requested features. Additionally, I prepared detailed automated software tests to resolve problems in the system and from the client’s perspective.

I prepared, cleansed, and pipelined salmon scale and atmospheric data to be utilized concurrently in factor analysis and multivariate regression. I tested statistical hypotheses involving the relationships between growth patterns in Atlantic salmon and ecosystem conditions using ANOVA, regression, and cluster analysis. I authored a library of tools to organize, process, and manipulate Atlantic salmon data. When my internship ended, I delivered a 30 minute final presentation of my findings to institute.

I developed a machine learning algorithm with a professor to search for functional elements within noncoding DNA regions with a team of faculty and students. I formulated computational techniques and workflows used to analyze biological data in areas such as evolutionary genetics and protein folding.

Mathematics major with concentrations in applied mathematics and statistics. Minor in Computer Science.
