Prof. Dr. Ulrike Hotopp

I am a member of the Panel to the Competition and Markets Authority, the UK's competition authority, an equivalent to Germany's Monopolkommission. The panel makes binding decisions in merger case, investigates markets and protects consumer rights.

I am the founding Director of LIVE Economics ltd a research based economic consultancy which specialises in providing economic evidence for decision making. This includes ex-ante assessment of options, ex-post evaluation of outcomes and value for money analysis as well as strategy development. I have particular expertise in the sectors of labour markets, energy, environment, agriculture and regulation.

I teach university students in economics and advise the university on strategic issues relating to impact.

Conducting market valuation studies, behaviour economics analysis and social valuations for public and private clients.

I was responsible for the Departments performance measurement, the development of key performance indicators and bidding for funds.

I was responsible for the economic analysis and statistics of the UK's renewable energy policy, its energy model and the official statistics on energy.

I oversaw the economic analysis of the Health and Safety Executive, including Impact Assessment and policy evaluation. The work included some important EU regulations to improve safety in the workplace and a European wide evaluation of the Display Screen Equipment regulation affecting millions of office workers across the EU.

International trade, innovation and labour markets: My PhD thesis was an analysis of the impact of imports on innovation and labour markets in the UK. It demonstrated that increased imports drive up quality in UK manufacturing industries.
