Wael Shamsi Basha

As a researcher in Cardiovascular Engineering, I worked on a funded project focused on anomaly detection for heart diseases. I obtained and processed CT scans of infants with congenital heart conditions, created 3D heart models using 3D Slicer, and ran CFD simulations. I also applied machine learning techniques and handled documentation using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

As a Teaching Assistant, I was involved in organizing and structuring courses to ensure smooth delivery and effective learning experiences. I graded assignments, reports, and exams, providing constructive feedback to students. Additionally, I proctored exams, maintaining academic integrity and a conducive test-taking environment. I also supported professors with various tasks related to course management.

My research team and I worked on Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). We used CTA-based patient-specific virtual surgery and observing the vascular stents that are being used in each patient. In addition, different surgeries were attended to observe the patients that have PDA and other heart defects, such as VSD and HLHS.

I interned at ÖNCÜ Dental A.Ş., gaining hands-on experience with dental medical devices. I worked with the technical team, performing vacuum and universal tests on autoclaves and installing dental units like Skema 5, PUMA ELI Castellini, and Woson. I also assisted in setting up X-radius compact 2D/3D systems, repairing handpieces (turbine and contra-angle), and replacing PCBs.

I worked at Medipol University’s international office as a registration and a front desk informant. I also worked as a translator and as a communicator with students to solve their problems they are facing.
