Research assistant (postdoc) (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 4 years salary grade (Entgeltgruppe) 13 TV-L FU reference code: 12-21/2025
Bewerbungsende: 16.06.2025
A qualification position is available as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the research group "Neural Dynamics of Visual Cognition” within the Unit of Neurocognitive and General Psychology led by Prof. Dr. Radoslaw Cichy. The position is funded by institutional resources and includes a teaching load (see LVVO). The position is available for a duration of 4 years.
Our research group investigates how the human brain transforms optical input from the retina into behaviorally relevant representations of the external world. The focus lies on visual object recognition and its interaction with other cognitive mechanisms such as language and memory. We employ an interdisciplinary approach combining elements of cognitive psychology (e.g., behavioral measurements), neuroscience (especially neuroimaging: fMRI / EEG), and computational modeling (deep neural networks). We apply multivariate analysis methods (machine learning, representational similarity analysis) and encoding models.
Job description:
This is an open call within the domain of visual cognition. This includes, but is not limited to, the current and planned research focuses of the group:
-Investigating the development of visual representations in humans from infancy to adulthood
- Deep neural network-based encoding models of the human visual system using large neuroimaging datasets (fMRI/ EEG, precision neuroscience)
- Advanced analyses of the structure of visual representations (e.g., dimensionality, topology)
The successful candidate is expected to independently develop and conduct research projects in the field of visual cognition – and teaching (see LVVO).
You will be part of an international, interdisciplinary team with strong national and international collaborations.
There is the possibility to work towards a habilitation (i.e., postdoctoral lecture qualification).
Requirements:
- Completed university degree (Master) and completed Doctorate (PhD) in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field
Desirable:
- Excellent results in university degree and Doctorate
-Outstanding knowledge in the field of visual neuroscience, demonstrated through publications
- Extensive experience in acquisition and analysis of neuroimaging data (M/EEG, fMRI)
- Strong experience with advanced analysis methods for fMRI or EEG data (e.g., decoding, representational similarity
analysis, deep neural network modeling)
- Excellent programming skills in Python or Matlab
- English language proficiency at least at level C1
- Experience in supervising and mentoring students
