At the
Institute of Lung Health and Immunity (LHI)
, we explore the molecular & immunological mechanisms underlying chronic lung diseases such as COPD, lung fibrosis, asthma, lung cancer, and the complications following lung transplantation. We want to translate our findings into preventative and therapeutic approaches for patients. At our institute, you will find a scientifically stimulating international and interdisciplinary environment. This position combines responsibility for maintaining a well-functioning laboratory infrastructure with the practical implementation of your own experimental projects. As part of these projects, you will manage primary lung cell cultures (including patient-based material), work with lung organoids and organoid-immune cell co-culture systems, perform CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, and investigate epithelial homeostasis & stress responses. In addition, as the laboratory manager (f/m/x) you will oversee daily laboratory operations, support researchers with technical expertise, coordinate collaborative workflows, and contribute to data analysis and project development.
The position is to be filled by 01.03.2026 or 01.04.2026.
Your tasks- You will work with lung organoids generated from primary mouse cells or patient material; including organoid-immune cell co-cultures
- Lead experimental workflows investigating epithelial homeostasis & stress responses, cellular signaling pathways, and functional assays
- Perform and support CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing
- Conduct and interpret flow cytometry experiments, support panel design, and assist with immunology-focused assays
- Oversee and maintain daily laboratory operations, coordinate project-related tasks and collaborations
- Teach new team members in standard lab techniques
- Completed university degree (B.Sc.) in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular bioengineering or related area
- Proven expertise in primary cell culture incl patient-derived material
- Practical experience with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing
- Practical experience in flow cytometry and immunology techniques
- Strong interest in science, innovation, and independent, solution-oriented work
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
Desirable qualifications
- Experience in lab management tasks and coordination of collaboration projects
- Expertise with organoid cultures
- Expertise in advanced imaging techniques incl live-cell imaging
If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 10. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 1 year but may be extended under certain circumstances.
