We are looking for an outstanding personality in the field of vehicle safety with professional experience and scientific activity who represents the subject internationally in research and teaching. The technical aspects of vehicle safety shall be covered as broadly as possible. Methods of numerical simulation and experimental technology should be applied.
Currently, the institute's research focuses on accident and injury prevention for road users and the investigation of crash behavior, including electrical energy storage systems. Topics in research and teaching include accident mechanics and reconstruction, biomechanical modeling, evaluation of safety systems, and battery safety.
It is expected that integral safety in mobility will continue to be promoted. The institute's infrastructure (Battery Safety Center Graz and crash laboratory) is to be further expanded. The professorship is expected to provide scientific support to the automotive industry and its suppliers and to participate in technical and standardization committees (e.g., Euro NCAP).
The willingness to engage in close inter-institutional and inter-faculty cooperation is a prerequisite. In addition, the professorship is expected to cooperate with national and international research partners and the automotive industry.
In teaching, the applicant is expected to cover both basic and applied technical issues of vehicle safety in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs.
Employment Requirements
- Completed domestic or equivalent foreign university education in a relevant field, including a doctorate;
- Excellent academic qualifications in research and teaching, preferably demonstrated by a postdoctoral qualification or equivalent academic achievements;
- Involvement in international (basic research-oriented, but also industry-related) research;
- Qualification as a manager with the aptitude to lead, promote, and further develop a research team or university institute;
- Expertise in the area of safe mobility/vehicle safety
- Excellent teaching skills
Desired Qualification
- Expertise in accident, impact and bio-mechanics;
- Experience in virtual and experimental methods for accident mitigation and prevention;
- Experience in dynamic tests for characterizing the crash behavior of structures;
- Expertise in the field of sustainable mobility;
- Knowledge of the characterization and modeling of anisotropic, heterogeneous materials, for example in bio-based materials such as wood;
- Proven contacts to the relevant industry (mobility, lightweight construction, timber construction);
- Experience in acquiring third-party funding and in applying for and coordinating funded projects;
- Representation in standardization committees and consumer protection organizations (ISO, Euro NCAP, etc.);
- Teaching courses in German and English;
- Ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate;
- Competence in the area of gender & diversity;

Relocation of the future professor to the greater Graz area (main residence) is required.
Adequate written and spoken German and English language skills are expected.
