Dr. Areti Mourka

I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the H2020 EU funded ‘FemtoSurf’ project to study hydrophobic/hydrophilic surfaces.

I was awarded with a Post-doctoral 'Stavros Niarchos Foundation - FORTH Fellowship' within the project ARCHERS, working on modular photo-induced non-linear additive manufacturing series.

Worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Farsari's group in IESL-FORTH (Heraklion, Greece) to develop an extremely stable advanced all-fiber based configuration of a compact ultrashort pulse laser system within the H2020 EU funded 'PULSE' project.

I worked as a Postdoctoral/Experienced Researcher @ UNIS group (http://unis.iesl.forth.gr) in IESL-FORTH (Heraklion, Greece) conveying the information about 3D Printing on the micrometer scale; applications portfolio, software and platforms.

My research work focused on laser processing of materials for energy and bio-medical applications, carried out simulations, wrote technical papers and reports, literature surveys, prepared and delivered oral presentations and students supervision.

I am currently working as a Research & Development Scientist in the development of new material applications in Nanoscribe Gmbh (Karlsruhe, Germany) that is a technological and world market leader in 3D printers for the nano-, micro- and meso-scale production.

A one year work as a Post-doctoral Researcher and Laser Development Engineer funded by the prestigious European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme-Marie Curie ITN, TOPBIO (TwO Photon absorbers for BIOmedical applications) project.

During the final year of my PhD studies, I had also worked on the post of Post-doctoral Research Assistant in the Optical Manipulation group in order to apply the methods developed during my PhD studies that include the use of diffractive optics and SLMs, in various fields of Photonics.

I joined the Optical Manipulation group in the School of Physics and Astronomy, at St. Andrews University as a PhD student in May 2009, exploring a range of fundamental and applied photonics with a special emphasis on beam shaping of light including optical vortices and propagation invariant light fields. I was awarded a PhD funding for 3.5 years from UK EPSRC and I successfully completed my PhD studies entitled 'Probing the Modal Characteristics of Novel Beam Shapes' in October 2013.

Five semesters demonstrating at Physics Lab1 and Lab2 modules, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of St. Andrews, Scotland, UK (module coordinators: Dr. C. T. A. Brown, Dr. C. Rae).

M.Sc. thesis entitled '2D and 3D deposition of biocompatible and biological materials by laser-based techniques'; it involved the fabrication of 2D and 3D structures using the 2-Photon Polymerization (2PP) and Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) techniques. @ NonLinear Lithography (NLL) Group at IESL-FORTH (http://www.iesl.forth.gr/users/farsari/). I successfully completed with distinction the M. Sc. program 'Microelectronics and Optoelectronics', in 2009.
