David O'Connell

I am working with ACT to coordinate the handling of complaints through the Fast-Track Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM) between trade unions, local employers, ACT affiliated textile brands, and regional employers associations. I worked with the DRM in Myanmar until February this year, now predominantly dealing with cases in Bangladesh.

I worked with the ICCD and University of Kassel to manage an excursion of international students from both Kassel and Rutgers in the United States to Geneva. The excursion was part of a programme in UN studies.

I worked with IG Metall in Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, attending works council meetings, workplace assembly meetings at numerous factories, and assisting the branch with internal work.

I worked with the INWORK department of the ILO specialising in collective bargaining and working time regulation reports. I served as co-president of the Intern-board, working closely with human resources and the ILO staff union to organise talks, discussions and events internally.

I worked with EPSU to produce an internal paper on workplace data protection rights. In addition, I attended social dialogue meetings with employers associations and produced reports on EU parliamentary meetings and committees.

I am currently writing my doctoral thesis on the topic of employee ownership and employee buyouts as potential job preservation strategies in struggling or insolvent firms
