Berufserfahrung von David Wilman

  • Bis heute 12 Jahre und 2 Monate, seit Juni 2013

Research Scientist and Lead (PI) of DFG-funded Project

    Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich

My research, financed by the DFG and carried out at both LMU and MPE, takes advantage of the powerful and unique dataset "KMOS3D", a 75 night project with the Very Large Telescope in Chile, co-led by myself. With state of the art data and analysis techniques, we map out the formation of stars and their dynamics within their host galaxies in the early Universe when most stars were formed. As well as managing the project and team, I love to dig into the data, leading to breakthrough science.

  • 8 Jahre und 8 Monate, Okt. 2004 - Mai 2013

    Postdoctoral Researcher

Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics

At the internationally highly recognised Max Planck Institute, I combined with international and local collaborators to further our understanding of how galaxies evolve throughout the history of the Universe, combining data from the most powerful telescopes and instruments with the most up to date models and data analysis techniques. Over this period I contributed to many collaborations as evidenced by the increasing rate of publications (63 to date) and international conference presentations (36 to date).

Ausbildung von David Wilman

  • 3 Jahre, Okt. 2001 - Sep. 2004

    Astrophysics

    Durham University, UK

My PhD research took advantage of data from some of the world's largest telescopes. During this time I learned how to combine scientific insight with an open mind when visualising, manipulating and modelling data, resulting in an improved understanding of galaxies and their evolution.
