Timeline

Professional experience for Erik Hedlund

  • 6 months, Oct 2022 - Mar 2023

    Senior Consultant

    Force 12

  • 4 years, Feb 2018 - 2022

    Co-Founder

    LightR

An attempt to commercialise a spectral imaging-based technique for remote sensing of pulse and blood oxygenation, also using facial recognition to identify and tie data to a patient. Machine learning utilised to calibrate measurements. The project resulted in a working proof of concept but unfortunately no secured funding. Currently indefinitely dormant, since the winter between 2021/2022.

  • 2 years and 5 months, Sep 2017 - 2020

    Postdoctoral Researcher

    KU Leuven

Base research and industry collaborations. Surface chemistry – single-molecule fluorescence at catalytic sites, Polyethylene fibre structure – Fluorescence and Raman microscopy (industry collaboration) Biophysics – Barley endosperm cell walls, fungal infections on apple leaves – confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

  • 1 year, Oct 2016 - Sep 2017

    Postdoctoral Fellow

    University of York

Follow-on from PhD. Improving techniques and data quality. Finalising the highly integrated bespoke epifluorescence and FRAP microscopy system – imaging diffusion down to single molecules in-vivo, in real time, improving 3D precision. Reporting results.

  • 3 years, Oct 2013 - Sep 2016

Marie Curie Early Stage Research Fellow

    University of York

DPhil/PhD programme in biophysics – ISOLATE consortium (7th framework programme). * Developing a highly integrated bespoke epifluorescence and FRAP microscopy system capable of imaging transcription factor diffusion with single molecule precision in yeast cells, in-vivo, in real time. * Integrated bespoke microfluidics and control systems for local environment control. * Developing cell cultures of genetically modified yeast for the research and microscopy using the bespoke systems created.

  • 1 year, Oct 2012 - Sep 2013

Marie Curie Early Stage Research Fellow

    University of Oxford

DPhil/PhD programme in biophysics – ISOLATE consortium (7th framework programme). First year in Oxford. Funding and lab moved to York 2013. * Same tasks as in my subsequent position in York. * Developing a highly integrated bespoke epifluorescence and FRAP microscopy system with astigmatic 3D enhancement – Proof of concept design and footprint optimisations. * Oversaw the moving of the scientific equipment of the lab from Oxford to York.

  • 6 months, Oct 2006 - Mar 2007

    Research & Development Engineer internship

    KDDI R&D

Developing hard- and software for a gesture-based user interface intended for handheld computers (e.g. mobile phones). The interface used IR augmented, camera based facial recognition to determine the device's position relative to the user. Results where a software prototype and the paper: "A Camera Based User Interface Using Infrared Augmented Feature Detection" (not publicly released due to company IP considerations at the time).
