Giles Ashley-Down

My role is to assist the Java team with searching for candidates, screening cadidates for submission to the client and general administration. I also help the clients to employ suitable people for their full time and contract roles. This role involves the use of a comprehensive database to search for candidates, talking to candidates via telephone and e-mail, sales skills, communication and teamwork in order to effectivley achieve goals with the rest of the company.

Promoted the university to prospective students and their parents at open days and taster days. Also presented at workshops in local schools and provide mentoring (for which I underwent a CRB check).

Provided silver service event waiting at corporate and private events including a drinks reception for 400 hosted by HM The Queen at St James’ Palace, a marquee wedding for 100 at a private country house and a lunch for 150 to launch a new office complex in Bracknell. Gained experience of set-up operations and back of house logistics.

Duties included gate supervision, bag and body searches, security patrols and crowd supervision. Gained experience of dealing with difficult, demanding, and sometimes drunken, members of the public.

Coordinated a countryside themed day to raise awareness of countryside issues, assessed as part of degree programme. This included pitching ideas to the client, reacting to budget restraints, conducting Health & Safety assessments, liaising with suppliers, promotional activities and on the day event management.

Part of a three-man team organising a conference entitled 'Climate Change: Finding Solutions' due to be held in March.

Provided operational support as required during their annual ‘Pumpkin Festival’ fundraising event.

Various front of house roles including serving behind the bar and in the restaurant. Achieved Food Safety Certificate.

Provided operational support as required during their ‘Ferrari Fun Day’ fundraising event at Highclere Castle.

Part of the Events Crew running all the events at the Student Union, from club nights to end of year balls. Duties included venue set up, supervising supplier get-ins, monitoring and assisting with technical installations, band and celebrity management, liaising with suppliers and security, promotional activities and ticket sales.
