I am part of an interdisciplinary research team to create a versatile platform that can incorporate 10 individual engineered human microphysiological organ systems modules in an interacting circuit. The limitations of animal models for modeling human disease and especially for predicting human responses to therapeutics are a rising concern in all facets of biomedical research and our approach defines a new intellectual frontier for ex vivo multi-organ interactions and in vitro/in vivo correlations.

Research in biochemistry and molecular biology with a focus on polymersomes, liposomes and protein nanoreactors, e.g. for drug delivery and biocatalysis.

Master Thesis: Synthesis and characterization of biologically active nucleotide based copolymers. Incubation and uptake studies of these siDNA covered, self-assembling copolymers with THP-1 leukemia cells indicated that the growth of the cancer cells was reduced without showing a toxic effect.
