I work as a part of an interdisciplinary team investigating the effects of deforestation on the prevalence of blood-borne pathogens in African rainforest birds. Using existing samples, as well as collecting new ones, and using PCR-based detection methods and molecular phylogenetics, I work collaboratively to investigate how long-term anthropogenic changes in habitats affect the prevalence of infectious diseases in natural populations.
