Magda Junqueira

As a tour guide for the Cavendish School of English, I am responsible for taking the pupils to some of the south's most beautiful and historical sites and teach them about their importance and significance in British history. Some of the trips include Stone Hendge & Salisbury, Brighton, Southampton and London.

As a mentor to Year 10's, my duties include helping the students with CV building activities, building self confidence and help them with their organisational and revision skills.

Portsmouth City Council and the University of Portsmouth are putting together a festival to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. As part of the event team, I will be organising a masquerade ball, putting together reenactments of his most popular plays and setting up a 17th Century village.

I am currently getting involved in my university during my last year as a guide and fundraiser. I am working with a group of fellow students to fundraise for the university's special funds which include a hardship fund and student opportunities fund. I have also been given the opportunity to be a student guide, a role which comprises being involved in open days and several alumni events which take place throughout the year and essentially involves being an ambassador for the Business School.

During my time at ShopperTrak, I developed not only professionally but also personally. I found the work extremely challenging. A big part of my role was to look after the event planning side of the marketing effort which required extreme organisational skills as we would very often be preparing for two or three events at any one time. My time with the company also taught me invaluable communication and interpersonal skills as I developed professional relationships with suppliers and other third parties.

I developed great communication and interpersonal skills. I was part of a team of 15 where I acted as team leader when necessary. When I had been at the company for 3 years I decided to opt for the development scheme. My duties as a trainee manager included planning everyday work plans, designing staff rotas, meeting with other managers to discuss everyday issues that occurred as well as helping the customers and dealing with any issues that occurred.
