Michael Cousins

I lead a team tasked with the development of a non-occlusive dilatation balloon catheter, obviating the need for rapid ventricular pacing and its associated risks. My responsibilities include research, design work and overseeing manufacture of the device, maintaining of design history files, validation and verification of the device and securing regulatory approval. Additionally, I am responsible for the management of the project and the team, including project planning, budgeting and resource allocation.

I formed part of a design team developing a low-cost low-tech mitral valve repair device aimed at developing countries, incorporating alternative user feedback mechanisms (e.g. pressure measurement) to guide the clinician to the mitral valve and capture the mitral valve leaflets and fasten them together to create an edge-to-edge repair.
