Prof. Dr. Philipp Heck

Heck serves as Director of the Negaunee Integrative Research Center at the Field Museum. The Museum is a leader in collections-based natural history research and social sciences in the fields of earth and planetary sciences, zoology, botany, and anthropology. The Center is comprised of faculty-level curatorial staff, research scientists, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and professional staff. The NIRC includes state-of-the-art laboratories.

Philipp Heck directs the research program in meteoritics at the Field Museum and currently focuses on presolar grains, the early Solar System, meteorites, fossil meteorites and micrometeorites. He is the curator in charge of the collection of meteorites, one of the largest worldwide. Other responsibilities include the curation of the gem, mineral, rock and economic geology collections.

Heck served as Interim Director of the Negaunee Integrative Research Center. The NIRC is a leader in collections-based natural history research and social sciences. Research is being conducted in the fields of earth and planetary sciences, zoology, botany, and anthropology. The NIRC is comprised of faculty-level curatorial staff, research scientists, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and professional staff. The NIRC includes state-of-the-art laboratories.

Philipp R. Heck directs the research program in meteoritics at the Field Museum of Natural History and is the head of the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies.

Philipp R. Heck is the curator in charge for meteoritics and oversees the collection of meteorites at the recently established Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies, the largest meteorite collection housed at a private institution with more than 6000 specimens and more than 2000 different meteorites.
