Dr. Sara Vicente

I was assigned to carry out the NANODRUG project in Sanofi. My tasks were performing the biological evaluation of novel nanocarriers developed in the project and manage collaborations, mentor graduate students, participate in decision-making process and communicate project advancements in group and project meetings.

Internship developed in Queen Mary University of London for 1 month in order to gain experience in dermal cell and tissue culture, microscopy imaging and histology.

I participated in an international project funded by the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation aiming to develope a nanocarrier-based system for non-invasive vaccine delivery. In this experience I could acquire an important multidisciplinary scientific background and other relevant skills (see PhD formation)

In this internship I could learn new radiological techniques to assess the pharmacokinetics and biodistribution of drugs and nano-delivery systems in one of the most experienced Radiology Departments in USA, at UTHSCSA. This work led to one scientific publication in Vaccine journal in 2014 (32:1685-92)

This internship was intended to gain knowledge on Immunology and assess the immunlogical properties of the nanocarriers developed as vaccine adjuvants.

Scientific formation and relevant skills acquired: pharmaceuticals, immunology, imaging, physiology and cell biology; scientific communication and writing, project management, working with tight budgets and deadlines, team player, searching for adequate contacts and collaborations.

Formation on the development of new pharmacuticals forms, such as drug delivery systems, nanomedicine, biomaterials, non-invasive administration routes.

Pharmacy degree including Pharmacology, Organic Chemistry, Physiology, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacokinetics, Physiopathology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Food Science.
