Tim Howe

I'm currently working as a production engineer in the Life Sciences division of the Merck Group at their Sigma-Aldrich Biochemie GmbH production site in Hamburg, Germany. Thus, I'm involved in the following tasks: - planning and designing production equipment such as synthesis reactors, extraction vessels, preparative chromatography systems (HPLC), pressure filters, thin film evaporators, dryer etc. including the automatization concept and peripheral equipment (vacuum pumps etc.)

I'm currently working as a research assistant in the field of chemical engineering at the K+S analysis and research center in Unterbreizbach, Germany. The chemical engineering team is responsible for the development and optimisation of process steps such as dissolving, crystallisation, evaporation and solid–liquid separation. Furthermore, the team is in close contact with the production facilities of the K+S Group worldwide to support the local teams during troubleshooting and optimisation projects.

Currently I'm working as a research assistant at Hochschule Wismar. My work is connected to the lab of biogenic raw materials of Prof. Dr.-Ing Christian Stollberg. The research of the professorship is focused on the energetic utilisation of biomass (pyrolysis/gasification) and the separation of valuable substances from medical plants (e.g. essential oil). Within in my role as research assistant, I'm involved in ongoing research projects as well as in the student education.

After graduating with a masters degree in process engineering, I was working on a project for B. Braun Melsungen AG. The main focus of the project was to requalify and validate machines and processes according to GMP standards for the production of injection and infusion solutions at their production facility in Melsungen, Germany.

Beside my studies at HS Wismar I worked part time as a private tutor for the subjects mathematics, physics and chemistry at Studienkreis Winsen. - teaching students (age 8 to 18) the theoretical principles of natural sciences - assist at solving homework's - prepare suitable exercises for the students

Beside my studies at HS WIsmar I worked part time as a research assistant at the laboratory for technical chemistry of natural products - analysing curcuma samples with a HPLC - installation and start up of a new Flame-AAS - writing a SOP for a Falme-AAS - analysing the amount of trace elements inside different soil samples from plantations with a Falme-AAS

Internship and Bachelor Thesis with the topic: "Building up and running a pilot plant to investigate the applicability of biological exhausted air treatment units in the series-coating of automobiles" - building up and running the pilot plant at the production facility of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg - analysing and evaluating the pilot plant data within the bachelor thesis

Working student at the chemical laboratory for quality assurance. Within my 6 months contract I was developing a method for analysing different product samples (amount of zinc) in a MP-AES (Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer). - method development for the analysis of additives - chemical digestion of the product samples with a microwave (CEM MARS 5) - analysis of prepared samples (Agilent 4100 MP-AES)

Student employee during the semester break. - manufacture different products in technical batch systems (chemical reaction in industrial size reactors) - start and observe production processes with a central process management system (PMSX) - conduct different process engineering methods (distilling, filtering, drying, etc.) - funnel containers and reactors with chemicals - take and analyze samples in the quality assurance laboratory - measure and record data during the production process

Internship during the semester break at the engineering department. During my internship I was involved in the start-up of a new cooling conveyor (electrical/technical/safety related). Part of my job was to implement the control logic for the automatisation of the machine. - prepare necessary documents for the technical and safety related startup - document results of the conducted tests - implement the control logic for the automatisation
