I studied the role of bone marrow stroma in the development of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). I found that AML-associated macrophages and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) support the growth of AML cells in vitro and in vivo better than normal macrophages and MSCs. That was dependent on Gfi1.
