Working in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Habil. Anca-Livia Butiuc, who is currently involved in a research project which aims to prove the possible involvement of the CRISPR-Cas system in the horizontal gene transfer process of antibiotic resistance genes. Based on the little literature available so far, CRISPR loci could potentially limit the acquisition of antibiotic resistance genes, which we want to further investigate. My main focus will be on Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Closely worked with the Functional Leads on clinical trial project management tasks during the project life cycle, contributing to the achievement of study deliverables in a timely manner and on the budget. Involved in an efficacy and safety study on Daratumumab, a drug used to treat AL Amyloidosis. Developed study-specific project plans and study-related guidance documents to ensure an efficient workflow and provided study reporting and analysis for a better understanding of the development of the study.

Characterized the CRISPR loci of the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa by using the genetic information of the P. aeruginosa strains available in the CRISPRCas++ database. The chromosomes and plasmids were analyzed using Bioedit, where genetic patterns specific to the different CRISPR-Cas subtypes could be easily visualized. PCR primers were developed as well using PerlPrimer, and were validated using the FastPCR programme.

Involved in developing an eco-friendly, low waste body wash under the supervision of the company owner and head of the lab, Andreea Costina. This internship contributed to my laboratory skills as I had to also conduct microbiological tests on the product by preparing culture mediums for different bacteria which could present a potential risk factor for the product.
