Conceptual design, Flowsheet synthesis, Process simulation and validation by experiments, Optimization.

Workgroup: - Physical & Chemical Process Engineering Master Thesis: ‘Characterisation and optimization of flow properties in a Micro-distillation device’ A membrane micro-separator was constructed for distillation. Task was to optimize the fluid flow for better performance with the help of experiments and simulation with COMSOL Multiphysics software.

· CFD-Multiphysics simulation of different micro-process systems and a Membrane micro-separator. · Preparation, construction and design of Membrane micro-separator. · Research: Fluid flow and heat transfer in micro-channels, Contacting patterns in micro-mixers and micro-reactors, reactive distillation.

• Complete basic engineering packages with Utility & off-sites, Front End Engineering Design, Relief load calculations. • Process simulation with Prosim plus and Aspen plus • Properties estimation by Group contribution methods • Project costing and feasibility analysis • Preparation of plant layout, PFD, PID and ULD • Interdisciplinary co-ordination with other departments

• Scale-up of processes at Bench, Pilot & Plant scale • Techno-Economic feasibility of R&D projects • Material and corrosion studies • Basic process design. • Estimation of properties by Group contribution methods • HAZOP and HAZAN studies, Relief load calculations.
